Amanamanha Free School
The Amanamanha Free School is formed by a group of parents, children, educators and volunteers, which are interested in constructing a proposal of libertarian education in a nonprofit basic school, located in the Atlantic Forest in the South of Brazil.
• Where the child is treated as a unique individual who constructs its own curriculum, in accordance with its characteristics, interests and choices. The timing of each child is respected. They are evaluated and assisted in accordance to their own learning process.
• Based on the interests of each child, interdisciplinary projects are proposed in to order develop the abilities foreseen in the National Curricular Parameters (Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais) for each cycle. These projects will be met by masters, people of diverse areas, by the school community, integrating science and popular knowledge. An example of this would be: traditional fishing, adobe workshop, experimental cooking, identification of plants, Capoeira, newspapers, organic gardening, etc.
• Learning is not only achieved within the projects, but also in the games, investigations, conversations, activities, relations and interactions. All of these build the curriculum.
• Conflict management through dialogue. Rewards and punishments are not used. Each individual is responsible for its action and construct the rules together. Autonomy and responsibility is developed through real participation in the decisions that are made.
• Amanamanha develops specific instruction for parents, through a constant revision of the educative practices adopted at home, aiming to overcome authoritarianism and making autonomy possible.
